Course Description
The Introduction to SONET course is intended to provide the student with a practical overview of the Synchronous Optical Network and its origins. This introductory course also outlines some of the basics of optical networking in general. Other topics covered include the history of SONET, the SONET frame structure, SONET digital hierarchy, SONET overhead, SONET payload pointer processing, mapping information to a SONET frame, and different SONET architectures. Network management and redundancy are also covered in the Introduction to SONET course.
